Joining the Cat Fanciers mailing list
The Fanciers list is a specialized mailing list. Before you join,
please read the following to make sure it is right for you.
What we talk about on the Fanciers List
The Fanciers list is intended for discussions or announcements
specifically relating to showing and breeding cats. This
includes such diverse topics as feline veterinary medicine and home
care, cattery management, cat show production, politics in the cat
fancy, and the history and evolution of cat breeds. Our discussions
are often highly technical. If this is what you are looking for, we
have the list for you!
What we don't talk about on the Fanciers List
The Fanciers list isn't intended for
discussing basic cat care advice, cute cat stories, and general cat
chat such as discussion of famous cats, cat names, cat trivia, etc.
These topics are more appropriate for general interest groups. If
you're looking for a place to talk about cats in general, check out FELINE-L, or some of the other general cat lists, or the Usenet newsgroup rec.pets.cats.
It also isn't intended for people who are
looking for a purebred kitten, or who have basic questions about cat
breeds. If you have some questions about a breed, start with the breed information and FAQs that are available on
the Internet. If you have more specific questions, or are looking for
a kitten, we have a breeder
referral list to match you up with a breeder who can help you!
Fanciers or Fanciers-Digest?
The regular Fanciers list is a high volume mailing list, with anywhere
from 50 to 200 individual messages per day, and sometimes more. You
will need to be prepared for a large volume of mail if you join the
regular Fanciers list.
We do offer a lower volume Fanciers-Digest option. If you subscribe to
Fanciers-Digest, you'll get your Fanciers mail "clumped" together into
fewer, larger messages. You will still receive all the same information
as you would on the regular Fanciers list.
We recommend that you start with Fanciers-Digest, so that you can get a
feel for the list volume and topics before you start receiving hundreds
of messages in your mailbox. After you get started, you may eventually
wish to switch to the regular Fanciers list, or you may want to remain
on Fanciers-Digest.
